The largest Rangpur Region Bidi Sramik Union held a four-point demand, including withdrawal of tax and advance income tax in the Bidi industry. They held this human chain program in front of Rangpur Collectorate Suravi Udyan yesterday morning.
Bangladesh Bidi Sramik Union President Amin Uddin BSc presided over the human band under the direction of Abul Hasnat Lavlu, General Secretary of Greater Rangpur Region Bidi Workers Union. Bangladesh Bidi Workers Federation general secretary Harik Hossain, vice president Md Nazim Uddin, Md Lutfar Rahman, Md Jamil Akhter, Md Anwar Hossain, joint secretary Abdul Gafur, organizing secretary Shamim Islam and others spoke at the human bandh.
The demands of the workers are - there was no tax on the bidi industry in Bangabandhu's era, so now there is no tax on the bidi industry, withdrawal of advance income tax, stoppage of low-grade cigarettes of foreign companies, and increase in the wages of workers in the bidi industry.
At the end of the human chain, the workers presented a memorandum containing four-point demands to the Prime Minister through the Rangpur District Commissioner.
